WINE LIST BELOW!
(vintages and wines subject to change at any time)
This wine list was constructed with a singular
focus:an authentic Santa Barbara Wine
Country dining experience. It is comprised of the finest wines from California’s
South Central Coast.Balance has been sought
between well-known and obscure, old standby and new favorite. Santa Barbara has
been producing wine since the 1970s and, recently, has become recognized for
production of world-class wines. This elevation in quality has made possible a
Santa Barbara County-only list— of sufficient depth & breadth— and is
reason to celebrate.
Santa Barbara’s wine country has four distinct
areas:the Santa Rita Hills & the
Santa Ynez Valley in the South (just 30 minutes north of Santa Barbara city)
and the Los Alamos and Santa Maria Valleys further north (just under an hour up
the coast).Many wine experts predict
that the Santa Rita Hills AVA, in particular, is perfectly suited— due to soil,
proximity to the ocean and unique micro-climates— to produce the best pinot noir
in all California… but you be the judge!
As a wine lover, I appreciate wines from all
over the world.I also believe there is
much more to be said for a dining experience that is truly regional than one
that isn’t.For that reason, I chose a
list that features the finest wines produced in our ‘own backyard’ to collaborate
with our local ingredients.Equally
exciting is the fact that the ‘big three’ in Santa Barbara— Chardonnay, Pinot
Noir & Syrah— are near-universal in their ‘food-friendliness’. I also see guests
surprised by the quality and approachability of local Viognier, Sauvignon
Blanc, and more recently, Cabernet from Happy Canyon at the eastern edge of the
County.
On the page 7 you will find thirty or so wines
that we feature by the glass. Please
feel comfortable asking your server’s recommendation on how they match up with
your dinner selections.(And if none of
this is really working for you, the last page features Champagne and some fine
Napa Cabernet!).
In the end, I believe a list that does justice
to great Bordeaux, fine Burgundy, intriguing Alsatians, alluring Italians,
rough-and-tumble Aussies, big Napa Cabernet would have to be many times the
size of this list to be ‘proper.’So,
instead, relax and enjoy the best Santa Barbara has to offer. Cheers!
